Relevant Work/Teaching Experience: Jodie's high school was one of only two in the state that taught sign language as an elective. She started in her junior year and by senior year was involved in a mentoring program at MD school for the Deaf where she continued to work (at both campuses) for several years. She has taught several short term sign language classes (8-10 week) and is really looking forward to a full year high school level class.

Other things you would like us to know about yourself: I will try to grade and provide projects to grow each student based on their own needs. There can be several levels of tests and projects. This isn't so they can get a good grade for their GPA. It is to help them gain skills and confidence if they have never taken a high school class before.

Relevant Work/Teaching Experience: Aside from teaching Math and Physics in the SCCK High School Tutorial, I have successfully taught all four of my children in math and science (and all the other lesser subjects) for ten years.

Relevant Work/Teaching Experience: Most recently (past 5 yrs), I worked as a Naturalist at Piney Run Nature Center in Sykesville. My main focus was to provide environmental programs for schools, scouts, homeschools and park patrons. I also helped to run Piney Run Nature Camp and was the chair for the Apple and Herb Festivals at Piney Run. I served as the Wildlife Envirothon instructor for the past 4 years for Carroll County High School students. I have also taught environmental education for US Fish and Wildlife as well as MD Department of Natural Resources. I volunteer weekly, teaching for the children's ministry at my church.
Other things you would like us to know about yourself: I am extremely excited to continue to teach classes for SCCK! I had a wonderful time teaching last year. It was truly a joy to share my love for the sciences with such an great group of children. I feel very blessed to have found a teaching position in my field that will still allow me to put God and my family first! I love kayaking, hiking, x country skiing, raising chickens and just hanging out with my 10 mth old baby Isaac!

Courses Taught at SCCK Before: Lego and Lego science substitute for science
Relevant Work/Teaching Experience: Deanna Williston, a veteran home-school teacher, began the SCCK Lego classes and has taught everything from Simple Machines to Mechanical Engineering to Robotics (and substituted for Miss Kelly's Science classes last year). She has also run the Creation Center at St. Joseph's Vacation Bible School, taught Natural History Classes at Piney Run Nature Center, as well as assisting at Horseback Riding Camp at TRRC. She has also been a newsletter editor for several non-profits. She has worked in Special Education, both in schools and with non-profits and currently is the Coordinator for Special Needs at Glazed to Perfection Pottery.
Other things you would like us to know about yourself: Some of Deanna's other artistic endeavors are currently on exhibit in the Smithsonian, in the Museum of Natural History's Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef. Famous in Montgomery County for her "Make Mine Chocolate" Easter Bunny campaign, Deanna serves as an educator for the House Rabbit Society. Deanna's son is in his final years with Mother of Divine Grace School, a Catholic distance-education program. She relaxes by reading, kayaking, observing nature, playing instruments, spinning yarn, crocheting & knitting, writing poetry and playing with her house-rabbits.
